Many accidents happen because of distractions that drivers experience on the road. I am not referring to common distractions that drivers experience everyday but the things that drivers do that impairs their safety. This includes things like texting while driving, putting makeup on while driving, or even smoking while driving. You would be surprised at what drivers will attempt to do while they are driving. According to distraction.gov, many of the accidents causes by distractions have led to fatalities or serious injury. They outline what is considered distracted driving in an article titled "What is distracted driving?":
- Texting
- Using a cell phone or smartphone
- Eating and drinking
- Talking to passengers
- Grooming
- Reading, including maps
- Using a navigation system
- Watching a video
- Adjusting a radio, CD player, or MP3 player
But, because text messaging requires visual, manual, and cognitive attention from the driver, it is by far the most alarming distraction.

Distracted driving is dangerous. Make sure that you are aware of what you are doing while driving so that you stay safe and keep everyone around you safe. Furthermore, be sure that your car is maintained so that you don't compromise your safety in that regard. One way that you can stay safe is by making sure that your windshield is free from chips and cracks. A chip or crack actually impairs your vision and can prevent you from seeing correctly while driving. In the following article by Your Mechanic, titled "Is It Safe to Drive With a Cracked Windshield?", they discuss some safety issues related to driving with a chipped or cracked windshield.
Size: One of the most important considerations is the size of the crack or chip. If the crack is large (long), then chances are good that your state actually has laws against driving in this situation. You’ll want to have the windshield replaced. If the crack is small, you can probably drive safely for a long time (although repair is recommended).
Position: Another consideration here is where the crack is located. If it’s on the passenger side and small, you should have no problem driving until you can have it repaired or replaced. However, if it interferes with the driver’s view out the windshield, it’s illegal to drive and you’ll need to repair or replace the windshield right away.
